Once upon a time, a grove of sacred oaks grew near the Puntukas Stone.
Many legends have been created about these oaks, altars were lit here and sacrifices were made to the gods, prayers were said and crosses were hung. Literary classics A. Baranauskas and A. Vienuolis-Žukauskas wrote about the sacred oaks. Two sacred oaks have survived to this day, in 1990 one of the oaks broke off during a storm. A. Urbšys, a forester of the Anykščiai Forestry Department, together with R. Nečiūnas, replanted it. In 1991, a wooden sculpture of Jesus of Nazareth was placed in one of the oaks. The sacred oaks are a natural landscape object protected by the Anykščiai District Municipality.
